At this point I just want to know what the problem is. For anyone reading this: I finally solved the problem. After searching hundreds of topics I found someone who said disabling “desktop experience” solved his problems.

I didn’t understand why styck would be related but I tried it anyway and lo and behold – it found 3 updates after 5min of searching. After restart, it now says “Your PC is up to date” xtuck also after around only 5mins. I have no idea why this windows 2012 downloading updates stuck it – we have some other server machines that have it enabled without problems. Happens every time I run updates on the machine. Last time it sat for about 2 hours before completing. This time it’s been about an hour. No other machine I have takes this long to “finish” updates. Is there anything I can look at while this is going on, or am I pretty much in wait mode until it’s done.

Afterwards, which log would be the best to check to see what it was doing all that time CBS or something else? Is this a new server? It could be an older R2.

I figured it would timeout and stop trying to reconnect the LUNs, but according to the Event Viewer it didn’t. Next time, I’m going to try avoiding restarting the machine with updates pending while iSCSI is messed up.
